This was my first trip to Europe. My family and I went on this tour recommended by a friend and we got her same guide Matthias. I highly recommend going on this tour as soon as you arrive! Matthias was the best tour guide! He gave us so much history about Barcelona, the architecture was fascinating, and many tips about where to eat and drink. I also love how he sent a group message after the tour highlighting some info he told us during the tour so we didn’t have to remember it all. Do this tour!!

Matthias gave us so many insights into Barcelona's history (from the succession of religions to the rule of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabel), about its architecture (got to love a tour guide who's a design geek at heart!), and, of course, its food. I've been on a few walking tours and this one was easily the best. Matthias, our guide, was so friendly, knowledgeable, fun, and engaging. He explained and told such interesting stories about the history, architecture, and culture and gave us lots of extra tips on restaurants, bars, sights etc. (we even stopped off for a coffee mid-tour at one of his favourite coffee places - it was delicious). After the tour Matthias sent us detailed follow-up messages tailor-made for our needs and interests. We came away feeling like we'd made a new friend and learned a lot! Definitely a highlight of our trip and would 100% recommend - thank you Matthias!

Matthias spoiled me with supreme knowledge of my 2 faves - history & architecture. Like another reviewer so aptly stated, Matthias set the bar so high, I doubt anyone will be as good! Having done a few walking tours in different cities, (all very good!) the bar was high, but Matthias, like their football team is in a league of his own. Fun, relaxed, genuine enthusiasm, (you'd have thought it was the first time he'd done it), just the right sort of pace and stories about recent and long term history of the city and residents. Made me wish I had his job!

We had a great time walking with Matthias as he told us a condensed history of Barcelona, from its Roman ruins to King Jaume and all the way to Spain's conquests. We hardly noticed the time as we got schooled in architecture and history as well. Great for history buffs and families with curious kids.
